May, 2022

This is the 3rd year the Burlington High School Stained Glass classes have created suncatchers and ornaments to raise money for TLC. Students learned about TLC's mission. They also learned about marketing skills, such as what designs they think people would purchase for art pieces. There was everything from holiday themes to animals to flowers and more. Thank you to BHS students, parents, staff and community members who supported the shelter through this fundraiser. We raised $310 this year.

You’re never too young to make a difference. This impressive young fella was worried the women and children who were calling TLC home over the holidays wouldn’t have any presents. For the nd year in a row, he made a list and shopped for gifts using a budget. Not all hero’s wear capes. Some wear glasses and a size 1 tennis shoe.

December 2021

TLC received in kind donations from the Burlington Catholic religious education program. Thank you for thinking of TLC and including us in your giving this season. These may be basic items, but they are very much needed here at the shelter. We are so appreciative and grateful for donations like these.

At TLC, we are gifted all kinds of donations. The scarves and hats shown below, were made by one of the women here at the shelter. All of the yarn and knitting needles were donated to TLC for women at the shelter to use and create with.

April 2020

The Transitional Living Center (TLC) Board of Directors is responding to the current COVID-19 crisis by forming a task force that will collaborate closely with the Racine County Health Department.

The primary objectives of the task force are to:

- Implement immediate protocols to protect both our families and staff.

- Ensure a safe environment within the shelter to mitigate the spread of infectious diseases.

- Establish resources and partnerships for our homeless community in the event they become ill with COVID-19.

Serving our homeless community is complex, and managing a pandemic within this population adds further challenges. Therefore, the TLC Board of Directors has decided to review new applications from individuals or families on a case-by-case basis during this critical time. Our primary focus will be on meeting the needs of our current clients by providing a safe shelter. This "safe shelter" may be redefined as a temporary hotel room instead of our communal shelter. Currently, one family is placed in a hotel so that the mother can continue working in the community without posing any health risks to the other families in the shelter.

These are difficult times for everyone. Please know that TLC remains committed to serving the homeless in our community.

For more information about TLC, please feel free to contact Cristen Chaffee, Executive Director, at 262-767-1478.

If you have any questions, please call Cristen Chaffee, Executive Director at 262-224-4390

Thanks to the Wisconsin United Methodist Foundation TLC will be able to continue to help participants with rental assistance in 2020. With being over capacity at the shelter for the past 22 months, this grant will help to provide assistance to those who are ready for permanent housing and decrease the length of stay at the shelter, opening up spots for other families.

October 2019

On October 26, 2019 students from Family Life participated in the 15th annual Cold Hands Warm Heart project. The high school students, and members of St. Mary's, St. Charles, and St. Joseph’s parishes, use the night to not only raise awareness about the homeless population in Burlington but to raise funds for the program. 21 students slept outside in boxes with over 30 more students helping with other aspects of the event. In addition, 13 adults helped chaperone, set up the soup kitchen, and assisted with breakfast. Though the weather was less than desirable, the students accomplished what they set out to do, raising over $20,000 for TLC. Over the past 15 years, Cold Hands Warm Heart has raised over $230,000 for TLC. This financial support is critical to the shelter and is used to continue programming to help our families become self-sufficient. We are grateful for their continued support and acknowledgment of our program.
The Board of Directors would like to extend a special thank you to Ellie Schultz and Jennifer Grandi for their hard work and dedication to this project and for giving the students
a way to grow in their faith while helping
others in need.
